Mr. Irish Bastard: Irish Folk mit Punk und Passion

Mr. Irish Bastard- das ist irischer Folk-Punk mit Leidenschaft, Lärm und Charisma, der seit 2006 aus Münster um die Welt geht. Der Name der Band steht für eine Szene-Institution, die Fans auf dem ganzen Erdball hat und mit ihren Songs, ihrer Attitüde und ihrer unverwechselbaren Energie in einer Reihe mit den internationalen Größen der Folkpunk-Bewegung steht.

Schon den Bandnamen Mr. Irish Bastard kann man auf mehreren Ebenen lesen. Einerseits der rüpelige Ausdruck „Bastard“, der quasi synonym für Punk ist und klingt wie das letzte Wort, das man an der Kneipe an den Kopf geworfen bekommt, bevor die Fäuste fliegen. Tiefer betrachtet schreibt die Bezeichnung Mr. Irish Bastard, wie Sänger Chris Lennon sich selbst nennt, aber auch eine Kurzbiografie seiner Herkunft und der Mission seiner Musik.

In diesem Sinne steht „Bastard“ für ein Kind aus zwei Welten, das zwischen den Stühlen groß wird. Lennons Vorfahren kommen aus Nordirland, er selbst hat einen irischen Pass, wuchs aber in Deutschland auf. Zusammen mit seiner Band ist es nun sein Ziel, diese Identität in Songs zu bringen und die Seele der Musik seiner Vorfahren in allen Facetten weiterzugeben. Auf der Bühne wird das Konzept Mr. Irish Bastard zu einem Zirkus voller Passion, Punkrock und Party. Der Frontmann intoniert seine Songs mit einer Aura zwischen Gangsterboss, VollblutEntertainer und Kneipenphilosoph. Um ihn eine Gang an gleichgesinnten, die ihn an Tin Whistle, Banjo, Geige, Mandoline, Gitarre, Bass und Schlagzeug unterstützen.

Mr. Irish Bastard begeistern ihr Publikum sowohl in aufgeheizten Clubkonzerten als auch auf den größten Bühnen weltweit. Insgesamt spielte die Band hunderte Shows in 18 Ländern, darunter auf dem größten Rockfestival in China, Clubs in Japan und in Europa bei FestivalHausnummern wie dem Wacken (inklusive mehrmals bei den Wacken Nights sowie der Wacken Cruise), Summer Breeze, Rockharz, Open Flair, Reload Festival und Vainstream
Rockfest.

Mr. Irish Bastard are one of the most recognized bands on the global Celtic punk scene today. True to its name, the band was formed by Irishman Chris Lennon, in Münster, Germany, after a night of revelry with fellow enthusiast Gran E. Smith. Armed with an acoustic guitar and a banjo, the duo quickly assembled a diverse group of like-minded musicians and set out to make their mark on the world, one Irish pub at a time.

Inspired by bands such as The Pogues and Flogging Molly, Mr. Irish Bastard sought to create a sound that combined the raucous spirit of punk with the melodic, storytelling traditions of Irish folk music. Mr. Irish Bastard quickly gained a reputation for their highenergy live shows, where the band’s infectious enthusiasm and rowdy spirit won over audiences in clubs and festivals across Germany. Their music is characterized by its catchy, anthemic choruses, and lyrics that often revolved around themes of drinking, rebellion, and Irish heritage. Since those early days, the band have gone on to carve out a legacy, performing alongside legendary acts such as The Pogues, Dropkick Murphys, The Levellers and Flogging Molly.

They’ve graced the stages of prestigious festivals across Europe and Asia, including Wacken, Summer Breeze, Rock Harz and Open Flair. Their global reach is evident, with performances in countries such as Japan, China, The UK and Ukraine. Now, with their seventh studio album, Battle Songs of the Damned, the band’s choruses are catchier, their shows more expansive and their reputation as one of the most respected Celtic punk bands in the world continues to grow. With nearly two decades of anthems under their belt, Mr. Irish Bastard are charging into 2025 with tour plans stretching from London to Leipzig in support of Battle Songs of the Damned.
